As a Calgary real estate agent, I am often asked to share tips about getting your home market ready, and there is no time like spring to get your home ready for the hottest part of the market for the year.

Spring is in the air and it is time to get your spring cleaning underway. Perhaps you are getting your home on the real estate market and prepping your home to look it’s best or maybe it is just time to refresh your decor. Once you have packed up unused, neglected or broken items it is time to take a critical look at your home and reflect on how it could be improved. Regardless of your motivation spring is a great time to take stock and make some changes.

A great tip when looking to see what you might change in a room, it to take a picture of it. This will help you see the things that you might not otherwise tune into. It is easy to become complacent when living in a space and to forget the things we tend to tune out. In cooler climates we tend to be drawn to texture, a thick warm rug, down filled pillows and heavy draperies. But once the temperatures rise it’s nice to shed those layers and incorporate something lighter and softer. Look for cotton pillows or casual light prints as they work nice in the warmer months.

The master bedroom is often the most neglected room in the house. For spring a coverlet is a nice light alternative to a duvet. Try to use light and airy fabrics and sheets with a heavy thread-count or even bamboo sheets as they are soft and wick away moisture. But if you stumble on a particular color, look at going all white. White is timeless, fresh and clean and creates a sense of peace in the home. Don’t forget fresh cut flowers or a potted plant with blooms, this reminds us that spring is here. Consider scent as part of your decor as it will add to ambiance, an oil reed diffuser in lavender or vanilla can add to the feel of a room

Lastly remember to look at the outside of your home to see what needs an update. A spring wreath to your front door, an updated welcome mat and or garden containers with seasonal foliage will ad an inviting welcome to potential home buyers or guests.

Austin Area Continues to Fare Well in Terms of Employment

Aside from the beautiful homes and incredible amenities found within the Steiner Ranch community, another benefit to living in this planned community is the fact that its residents get to enjoy all of the benefits that the city of Austin has to offer. Among these benefits is the fact that the capital city has a relatively low unemployment rate when compared to the national unemployment rate.

While the U.S. Department of Labor is reporting that approximately 22,000 less people filed claims for initial unemployment last week, the news is even better for Austin residents. In fact, Austin Biz Journals reports that the unemployment rate in Austin fell from 7.2% in October to 6.9% in November. While this is still well above the rate of unemployment within the city a year ago, which is estimated to have been at around 4.9%, it is still better than the national rate. Furthermore, it is better than the rate for the state of Texas on a whole, which dropped from 8.3% in October to 8% in November.

When it comes to new unemployment claims, the state of Texas continues to fare better than the rest of the country. Not only has the state enjoyed a decline in the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, it has actually added nearly 70,000 jobs over the past two months.

For Steiner Ranch residents, remaining ahead of the national curb is just one more reason to enjoy living in the area. With so many jobs located in the state capital, including numerous positions for those with specialized technical skills, the area is predicted to continue to remain one of the cities with the strongest economies in the country. That’s good news for residents of the community, as Steiner Ranch residents certainly enjoy being able to enjoy the finer things in life – and having a great job that is only a short commute away is key to making certain these amenities remain accessible!
